Fernandes träffade WCC:s generalsekreterare Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, WCC-personal och personal från WCC:s systerorganisationer för dialog under besöket.
”I am deeply grateful and thankful for the visit of Roland Fernandes to the WCC office,” sa Pillay. ”The collaboration and partnership we share with the United Methodist Church is greatly valued and appreciated. Roland’s visit has done so much more to deepen and strengthen the work and witness in which we engage together. Apart from the two secondments we already have to the WCC from the UMGBGM, we were able to identify other possible programmatic collaborations.”
Fernandes fick en introduktion till WCC:s arbete med enhet, mission och ekumenisk bildning, samt offentligt vittnesbörd och diakoni samt förberedelser inför år 2025, som kommer att vara ”Ett ekumeniskt år om pilgrimsfärden mot rättvisa, försoning och enhet.”
Han fick också en översikt över Green Village och hur utvecklingsprojektet stödjer WCC:s hållbarhetsagenda.
Fernandes besökte Ekumeniska institutet i Bossey, fick en översikt över WCC:s kommunikation och lärde sig om Ungdomar i det ekumeniska arbetet.
Diskussionerna täckte också nya pandemier och WCC:s roll i förhållande till Världshälsoorganisationen, samt WCC:s styrelse- inklusive konsensusmodellen för beslutsfattande- samt inkomstövervakning och utveckling. Fernandes träffade även ACT Alliance.
Han avslutade sitt besök med en rundabordsdiskussion om den ekumeniska gemensamma kallelsen idag, och njöt sedan av en guidad tur i historiska Genève.
”Given the long history our denomination and agencies have had with the WCC, it was good to spend two days with the general secretary and staff of WCC and get a full picture of all that the WCC is doing, which is not easy to fully grasp in short meetings,” sa Fernandes. ”I look forward to following up with increased engagement on matters we discussed together as we strive to make a difference in a hurting world.”
