Based on Luke 18:1-8, the parable of the persistent widow, the text was penned by Bright Musonda, a theology student at the United Church of Zambia University.
In the patriarchal society of ancient Judea, women’s roles and rights were limited by social and religious laws,” Musonda writes. The widow in the parable represents marginalized individuals who navigate oppressive systems, seeking justice despite social barriers.
The Bible study—which includes a reflection on the text, questions for discussion, suggestions for activities, and a prayer—is appropriate for both individual and group use.
Bright Musonda is a second-year student in theology at the United Church of Zambia University.
