Renewing the path of unity among Christians in Latin America and the Caribbean was the focus of a recent regional gathering. Hosted by the Roman Catholic Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council, the event aimed to promote dialogue and reflection on the progress and obstacles in ecumenism and interreligious dialogue.
One of the key organizers of the event was Rodolfo Valenzuela, bishop of Verapaz in Guatemala. With a strong background in interreligious dialogue and ecumenism, Valenzuela emphasized the importance of creating a platform for meaningful dialogue that addresses shared concerns and fosters unity among Christians in the region.
Valenzuela highlighted the unique challenges faced in Latin America, differentiating them from those in Europe. The goal of the gathering was to identify these challenges, explore opportunities for growth in communion, and pave the way for a more united Christian community in the region. Valenzuela’s role in the Joint Working Group between the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Roman Catholic Church further underscores his commitment to promoting unity among Christians.
